Faces, texture and stories at GRAG this winter

Published on Tuesday, 7 July 2026 at 10:48:31 AM

Geraldton Regional Art Gallery will host two captivating exhibitions this winter, showcasing nationally significant photography alongside works from one of Western Australia’s most celebrated artists.

Recognised as one of Australia’s most prestigious photography prizes, the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2025 celebrates photographic portraiture from across the country.

Also on display is the Art Gallery of Western Australia’s touring exhibition Howard Taylor: Material Practice, featuring selected works from one of WA’s most acclaimed artists.

Renowned for his attention to detail, Taylor’s works portray his interpretation of light, form and his relationship with the natural environment.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune said both displays offer unique perspectives for the community to enjoy.

“Hosting collections of this calibre gives our community access to nationally significant artworks right here in Geraldton,” he said.

“With such a wonderful array of perspectives and experiences, it is hard not to be moved.

"I encourage everyone to experience the broad and unique storytelling presented throughout the Gallery.”

Community members are invited to attend the opening day event at the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery from 10am - 11:30am on Saturday 11 July.

RSVP is essential, with free tickets available via Humanitix.

Both shows will be on display from Saturday 11 July to Sunday 13 September 2026.

Howard Taylor: Material Practice is supported by the Government of Western Australia through the Regional Exhibition Touring Boost.

The National Photographic Portrait Prize is supported by the National Collecting Institutions Touring and Outreach Program.

These exhibitions align with the Connected theme of the City’s Strategic Community Plan and reflect the organisation’s commitment to fostering cultural expression, inclusion and community connection.
