Published on Monday, 19 February 2024 at 12:07:12 PM

Lives lived through dance will take centre stage in an upcoming portrait exhibition visiting Geraldton Regional Art Gallery (GRAG).

From the lounge room to grandest of stages, the National Portrait Gallery’s touring exhibition DANCER celebrates devotees from this culture transcending form of expression and storytelling.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune is eager to see the artworks which feature a star-studded lineup of dancers.

“We are extremely fortunate to have the National Portrait Gallery visiting us and this exhibition promises something for everyone who has an interest in dance, art or photography,” he said.

“This enticing collection features the likes of dance legends Irina Baronova, Robert Helpmann, Hélène Kirsova, Graeme Murphy, Gideon Obarzanek, Anna Pavlova, Marilyn Rowe and Janet Vernon.

“I look forward to attending the first exhibition opening night event of the year and encourage everyone to reserve their tickets early as this one is sure to be popular.

Some Like it Hot will also be officially opening on the same night followed by an Artist Talk from award winning photographer Liz Looker the next day,” added Mayor Clune.

DANCER will be on display at Geraldton Regional Art Gallery from Friday 23 February to Wednesday 24 April.

Both DANCER and Some Like it Hot will officially open on Friday 23 February, tickets to this free event as well as tickets to the much anticipated Artist Talk with Liz Looker at 10am on Saturday 24 February are available via Humanitix.

The DANCER exhibition is supported by the National Collecting Institutions Touring and Outreach Program - an Australian Government initiative aiming to improve access to the national collections for all Australians.
