Finalists for the biennial Mid West Art Prize (MWAP) have been announced as the anticipation for the exhibition’s gala opening night grows.

Returning for the eighth time MWAP brings together a broad range of vibrant artworks from West Australian creatives to compete across five categories for a total prize pool of $26,500.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune commended all 60 artists who are in the running for the top spots.

“Mid West Art Prize is our signature art event and showcases the unique talents we have here in our state,” he said.

“Congratulations to those whose artworks have advanced to the next stage of the competition and thank you to all those artists who stepped up and entered their work.

“I encourage everyone who is keen to join us for the opening night of the exhibition to reserve tickets as soon as possible as this fantastic event always books out.”

The MWAP shortlist selection panel comprised of preeminent art critics Carola Akindele-Obe, Eve York as well as Julia Remmert and was generously hosted by the North Midlands Project.

The City of Greater Geraldton would like to thank Yamaji Art, Bowman Bright and Latitude Jewellers for sponsoring MWAP 2023.
