If you’re passionate about Geraldton and the arts, then you’ll want to catch the City of Greater Geraldton’s theatre production Coast which premieres at the Queens Park Theatre next month.

Coast tells the story of a couple returning to Geraldton and their encounter with a young woman who provokes them to confront their own lives, identities and hopes for the future of their unborn child, and come to terms with the sometimes troubling, ghosts from the past.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn encouraged residents and visitors to attend.

“We’re ecstatic to see months of hard work come to fruition on the stage and we are expecting opening night to be a great success,” he said.

“If you love Geraldton and the arts then you definitely have to see Coast, which references some of our icons like the St Francis Xavier Cathedral, HMAS Sydney II Memorial, Tin Heads as well as our many qualities and quirks.

“A big thank you to the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund and the State Government’s Raise the Roof Funding Program who have supported this initiative from the very beginning.”

Set in contemporary Geraldton, with historical flashbacks to the forces and events which forged Geraldton’s character, Coast explores often in a comic way, the complexities and contradictions of the tricks, truths and distortions of memory and the positives and drawbacks of returning to a place where vivid and formative experiences occurred.

Abbie Lee Lewis, Felix Johnson and Grace Victoria will play the three main characters and spend the weeks leading up to the performance rehearsing in Geraldton. The actors will be joined by scriptwriter Chris Edmund who visited Geraldton last year and held a writer’s workshop.

Coast will premiere at 7.30pm on Saturday 19 October at the Queens Park Theatre. A matinee will also take place on Sunday 20 October at 2.30pm.

Tickets to both shows will be available to purchase this Friday 13 September via the Queens Park Theatre’s website.
