Artists to refresh bollards with Midwest Life

Published on Monday, 18 January 2021 at 10:38:12 AM

Geraldton’s vibrant bollards are due for some fresh new artwork and the City of Greater Geraldton is calling local artists to submit designs inspired by ‘Midwest Life’.

Just 20 creations will be selected to feature on the protective barriers that encompass Marine Terrace and Foreshore Drive in the CBD, with each artist receiving $250 for their design.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it was a fun opportunity for creatives.

“The art-covered bollards in the CBD are easily one of our most popular public art projects to date and it presents a really unique canvas for artists,” he said.

“This year’s theme is Midwest Life, so creatives can pull inspiration from our diverse region, in the land, ocean, history, connection to country and so much more.

“It’s been close to five years since we called for artwork on the bollards and we’re excited to provide an opportunity for our arts community to refresh them.”

Entries close at 9am on Thursday 25 February and artists can submit up to three designs inspired by the region. Submissions must be original work from the artist and supplied in PDF or JPG format.
