Starstruck Film Screening | Sunday Too Far Away

Past Event

As part of the Starstruck exhibition, GRAG will be showing a special screening of Sunday Too Far Away in our theatrette!

Directed by Ken Hannam and starring Jack Thompson, Sunday Too Far Away tells the story of Australian sheepshearer Foley. Foley both works and plays hard as he roams from job to job, until a threat to bonuses and the arrival of non-union labour forces him into action. Acclaimed for its understated realism of the work, camaraderie and general life of the shearer, the film is a presentation of various aspects of Australian male culture and not a romance; the film's title itself is reputedly the lament of an Australian shearer's wife: "Friday night [he's] too tired; Saturday night too drunk; Sunday, too far away".

This screening is free, but places are limited so please register.

This has been made possible with thanks to the National Film and Sound Archive and the National Portrait Gallery.
