Bigger picture in focus at Gallery

Published: Tuesday, 9 October 2018 at 12:30:26 PM

A mixture of drawings, paintings, prints and sculptures will be centre stage at the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery this Friday night, as Assembling Parts for a Bigger Picture launches.

The exhibition explores the way “place” is experienced, through every day routines and life as well as from unusual and unfamiliar journeys.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the artists behind the exhibition were no strangers to the Gallery.

“The artists involved in this exciting showcase have all featured in the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery’s prestigious Midwest Art Prize and have works in our City Art Collection,” he said.

“It’s great that we are able to welcome them all back to the region, and I encourage everyone to attend on Friday night to explore this intriguing exhibition.”

Married couples Nicole and Bruce Slatter and Bevan Honey and Susanna Castleden aim to bring awareness of place through this exhibition and do this through a variety of different mediums.

A view of a trestle on a ladder, dense green foliage, an abandoned tractor and a lighthouse at night all point to a moment of observation at a particular place and time.

Assembling Parts for a Bigger Picture officially launches at the Gallery on Friday 12 October at 6pm. At 10.30am the following morning, the artists will be conducting a floor talk, where members of the community can gain insights about the collection. The exhibition will conclude on Saturday 24 November.

On Wednesday 10 October from 5pm to 6.30pm Susanna Castleden and Bevan Honey will be hosting a talk followed by a Q & A session at the Gallery about how to develop your arts practice into a sustainable business. This event is free to the general public and no RSVP is required.
