Artist Talk | Nathan Beard

Published on Saturday, 21 April 2018 at 11:11:00 AM

Join us from 10:30AM at the Gallery for an artist talk with Nathan Beard. Nathan will informally discuss the conception of his artworks for Dead Centre as well as his wider arts practice.

//ABOUT NATHAN
Nathan Beard is a young Western Australian artist whose work deals with the fluid nature of personal and cultural identities. Often based in an exploration of his own Thai-Australian background, his practice is conceptually and materially hybrid as he combines sumptuously rendered sculpture, photography and drawing to produce thoughtful, provocative and elusive experiences.

Nathan graduated from Curtin University in 2010 and has exhibited in public and private gallery spaces in Perth, and in Melbourne at the ...National Gallery of Victoria with two other Western Australian artists as part of the 2012 Next Wave Festival, as well as in Sydney at Artereal and Bangkok. He has had artist’s residencies in China, Thailand and at the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery, Royal Pavilion, Brighton, England. Nathan was recently featured in the Art Gallery of Western Australia's WA FOCUS exhibition.

//ABOUT DEAD CENTRE
Dead Centre aims to contextualise a group of artistic voices from around the country that explore and celebrate marginalised identities in the broader spectrum of a multicultural society. The exhibition articulates some of the problematic expectations on the individual in finding their place in a social landscape characterised by simplistic and divisive assumptions.

Featuring work from artists Tony Albert, Abdul Abdullah, Olga Cironis, Barbara Cleveland, Nathan Beard, Megan Cope, Liam Colgan, Thea Costantino, Léuli Eshrāghi and Angela Tiatia.

The tour of this exhibition is managed by ART ON THE MOVE and is on show until 16 June 2018.
